The Fonio Labs Story — From Idea to Product Studio
How a passion for building technology products grew into a multi-industry studio tackling gaming, education, and fintech.
Fonio Labs didn't start in a boardroom. It started as a conversation between two friends who kept running into the same problem: great ideas dying in notebooks because nobody around them knew how to turn “what if” into something people could actually use.
Emmanuel Doji and Victor Nsa had been building things separately for years, Emmanuel across Web3 and AI-native tools, Victor across enterprise software and business systems. But the real spark came from a shared frustration: too much of the technology built for African markets was borrowed from elsewhere, retrofitted rather than designed for the realities on the ground. Patchy infrastructure, low-bandwidth classrooms, users who needed things to just work, not to be impressive.
The dream was simple: build a studio, not a single product. A place where good ideas across different industries could get the same rigor, the same care, and ship as things real people would use, whether that meant a classroom in a school with no reliable internet, a wallet for someone new to Web3, or a game that just needed to be fun.
For a while, that dream lived exactly where most dreams live: in late-night calls, shared documents, and half-built prototypes. It took shape slowly, testing ideas, throwing out what didn’t work, and holding onto the ones that did.
In 2025, that shared dream became something official. Fonio Labs was registered as a company, and what had been two friends building on the side became a studio with a clear mandate: build user-friendly technology for education and emerging markets, across whatever industry the problem called for.
Today that mandate shows up in Skoolbox, built for African classrooms; in Rabit Wallet, making Web3 more accessible; and in the games and fintech ideas still taking shape behind the scenes. Different industries, same thread running through all of them: technology that respects the people using it enough to actually work for them.
The studio is still early. But it was never really about the registration date. It was about two friends who decided a dream was worth building toward, and just kept showing up to do the work.
